Relief Reaches Flood-Hit Villages via a Ropeway After Five to Six Days of Struggle
RASUWA, Nepal: Relief distribution has finally begun in flood-ravaged villages of Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality in Rasuwa after five to six days of challenging travel and logistical difficulties. With road networks disrupted, alternative river-crossing routes unavailable, and access to nearby markets severely limited, relief teams resorted to using a ropeway to transport essential supplies to affected families.
The devastating flood of August 26 caused significant damage to property and livelihoods, making daily life increasingly difficult for local residents. With transportation routes cut off, affected families faced serious challenges in obtaining food and other essential household supplies. Recognizing the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, a relief campaign was launched to support the affected communities.

The relief initiative was undertaken by Bodhisattva Vihar and the Pragya Karuna Foundation, coordinated by Dr. Piya Ratna Maharjan. After reaching Syafrubesi with relief supplies, the team found that reaching the destination by road was not feasible. As a result, the team used a ropeway to transport the supplies across the river. The materials were then carried by porters along approximately 500 to 600 metres of difficult footpaths to reach the affected settlements.
Despite the challenging terrain, blocked roads, and risky travel conditions, the relief team continued its efforts and personally carried supplies to the affected families. Local residents welcomed the team warmly and expressed their gratitude upon receiving the much-needed assistance.

Relief Distributed to 230 Households on the First Day
Relief distribution began on October 11, 2026 (Ashoj 25, 2083, according to the Nepali calendar). On the first day, assistance was provided to 230 households, including 50 households in Gatlang, Ward No. 3, and 180 households in the Gre area of Ward No. 2 of Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality.
According to campaign coordinator Dr. Piya Ratna Maharjan, relief supplies were distributed to an additional 400 households in Gatlang on October 12, 2026 (Ashoj 26, 2083).
Maharjan said the team successfully delivered relief supplies to the affected settlements despite the difficult terrain and transportation challenges. He described the operation, which involved transporting supplies across a river by ropeway and carrying them by hand along challenging mountain trails, as a significant humanitarian effort in a remote region.
He also emphasized the team’s determination to reach flood-affected families despite the lack of reliable road access and the risks involved in transporting essential supplies.

Cooperation Between Local Representatives and Kakani Media
The relief distribution campaign was carried out with the coordination and cooperation of Surendra Tamang, Chairperson of Ward No. 3 of Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality; Chandika Tamang, Vice-Chairperson of the rural municipality; and the Kakani Media team.

TikTok content creator Kabina Tamang also actively participated in the relief distribution campaign alongside the Kakani Media team.
The combined efforts of Bodhisattva Vihar, the Pragya Karuna Foundation, campaign coordinator Dr. Piya Ratna Maharjan, local representatives, and Kakani Media played an important role in ensuring that relief supplies reached the affected communities.

Restoring Road Access and Essential Supplies Remains a Challenge
The need for relief and rehabilitation remains urgent in areas affected by the devastating flood of August 26. Communities isolated by damaged roads and limited access to nearby markets continue to face difficulties obtaining food and other essential supplies.
Alongside immediate humanitarian assistance, restoring road connectivity, improving transportation access, and establishing reliable supply networks are essential to help affected communities recover and rebuild their lives.

The challenging terrain blocked the roads, but it could not stop the spirit of humanity. Relief supplies were transported across the river by ropeway and carried on foot along difficult mountain trails until they reached the families in need.

This humanitarian initiative stands as an example of compassion, determination, and collective responsibility in times of disaster.
